Is Black Adam a disappointment? ›

Add a Review. Large budgeted and badly disjointed, "Black Adam" belongs in the poor category with the likes of "Justice League" and "Superman vs Batman". The story is hackneyed, and the dialog is eye-rolling with terrible worn out humor. It feels like a bad imitation of better Marvel movies.

In The Marvel Family #1, Black Adam is an ancient Egyptian named Teth-Adam (i.e., "Mighty Human"), who is chosen by the wizard Shazam to be his successor due to his presumed moral purity. This story is reprinted in DC's Shazam! #8 (1973), which is his first appearance in the Bronze Age.

Black Adam is seen as a superhero in the new movie but is still a menacing anti-hero in the comics. With the introduction of Black Adam to the cinematics, some superheroes both from DC and Marvel finally have a worthy foe.

In short, Black Adam should be Shazam's equal, but some of his powers are beyond Billy Batson's abilities. Black Adam also has allies that help him overcome entire squads of superheroes. Then, Black Adam has a lot of combat experience, while Shazam is, in fact, a child.

As the dialogue in Justice League #73 suggested, while Superman's specific vulnerabilities give Black Adam a chance against him, that doesn't mean the two are equal in power, and the Man of Steel is clearly stronger by any comparison.

Ultimately, pure strength and speed will win the fight of pantheons, with the gods-given power of Black Adam simply being too much for Thor. Black Adam has speed on the level of a Kryptonian or even the DCU's version of The Flash, which is simply too much for Asgard's former prince.

Being one of the most overpowered superheroes of all time, Sentry has more than enough power to defeat Black Adam in seconds. His powers are pretty much limitless and have been described as godlike. While Black Adam also has godlike power, his powers have their limits. Sentry's does not.

Black Adam and Shazam both get their powers from the same Council of Wizards, which explains why Teth-Adam says "Shazam!" to power up. Unlike Billy Batson, though, Black Adam draws his powers from the Egyptian gods: Shu, Heru, Amon, Zehuti, Aton, and Mehen.

The Dwayne Johnson-led film was released in October 2022 to middling critical reception. The overblown action sequences, lack of a tight script, thin story, and poor character development meant that Black Adam was a disappointment for those excited to see the so-called shift in the hierarchy of the DCEU's power.

Black Adam Is Given the Magical Weakness of Eternium in the DCEU Movie. The new Black Adam DC Extended Universe movie introduces an actual weakness for Black Adam: eternium. This substance actually exists in the comics, and it's made from the fragments of the shattered Rock of Eternity where the Wizard Shazam resides.

As far as strength is concerned, it's pretty much a wash. Earth's yellow sun gives Superman immense strength, while Black Adam's strength is, literally, a gift from the gods, specifically Amon. A street brawl between the two could go on for days with neither gaining the upper hand.

Under Psycho Pirate's influence, Black Adam admits that the one person he fears is Shazam - however this isn't the hero modern fans think of when they hear that name.
