1. Ford F-150
The F-150 has gained a reputation for its dependability, and it has only gotten more modern. The 2024 Ford F-150 offers a variety of bells and whistles, including a hybrid option. Unfortunately, according to Consumer Reports, this truck is one of the worst deals you can get on a car right now due to inflation—it is currently going for about 11% over the sticker price.
2. Audi Q5
The Q5 is popular for its sleek design and smooth performance. However, it was rated one of the least reliable cars of 2023, and its cabin design and cargo space leave much to be desired. This might be a good one to skip if you’re looking to buy a car this year.
3. Chrysler Pacifica
The Pacifica definitely has its perks. It boasts plenty of cargo space for all your stuff and offers a smooth ride. On the downside, it is on the pricey side, and some of its rivals offer more comfort, particularly for backseat passengers. On top of that, the hybrid version is a whopping $13,500 more than the non-hybrid—with less seating. While it’s not the worst car on the market, its advantages don’t quite outweigh the sticker price.
4. Chevrolet Colorado
Chevrolet’s mid-size pickup truck, the Colorado, came bursting onto the scene as one of its class’s best and most reliable pickup trucks. Unfortunately, that didn’t last long, as consumers are now steering clear of the model. Some of the feedback motorists complain about is its loud cabin noise, lack of horsepower, bumpy rides, and seats that make your back hurt. High resale value is not in the cards for the Colorado.
5. Mini Cooper
The Mini Cooper might look cool and fun, but its poor design leads to visibility problems, making it a hazard during harsh weather conditions. Also, owners have noted that repairs come with a hefty price tag, as parts for this little roadster are costly. Walk past that high price tag and spend your money on something else.
6. Jeep Wrangler
Jeep enthusiasts will hate me for mentioning the off-road machine, but the truth is, unless you need to climb a mountain to get to work, a Jeep might not be all that practical. Also, the ride could be smoother. If you plan to drive this rig for more than 20 miles on your commute, you will need a back brace.
Even with all its quirks, there is still a massive desire for Wranglers. But unless you plan to use the vehicle for what it’s built for, you’ll find much more practical options in other sport utility vehicles.
7. Cadillac Escalade
The Escalade was once the epitome of success. It was what the wealthy drove: watch any rap video from the 2000s for proof. But now, experts are searching for the appeal of the vehicle. Despite its massive size, many passengers and drivers don’t feel comfortable inside. Matched with poor technical specs and a lacking entertainment system, the price tag severely outweighs the Escalade’s performance.
8. Chevrolet Camaro
Although they are a relative bargain when it comes to other sports cars on the market, the newer Camaros lack the nostalgia and power of the iconic muscle car of the ’60s and ’70s. Fans of the car have noticed that very few upgrades to the body have been made in the past decade, making the newer models blend in with the older ones. The price tag is not worth the lackluster performance that the Camaro was once known for.
9. Dodge Charger
Another iconic muscle car of a past generation, the Dodge Charger was once the pinnacle of raw power. Everyone wanted that Hemi engine to spit out extra horsepower. That need for speed has caught up with the Charger, and engine performance has fallen dramatically.
Extensive reports of transmission problems have caused a sharp decline in sales over the years. Some believe the company is relying on the name alone to drive sales instead of updating the model.
10. Fiat 500X
Fiats have never been associated with superior performance, but this model has reached an all-time low. US News and World Report recently listed this model as last in reliability in the compact vehicle category.
Complaints of control while driving and an engine that has trouble pushing the car up a hill should deter you from purchasing this Fiat. Plus, it’s tiny, so you will look like Fred Flinstone driving it if you are above average height.
11. Land Rover Discovery Sport
The Land Rover making the list is a head-scratcher, as it is usually high up on many lists. Sadly, its standards took a blow recently with its sports edition.
The biggest issue the vehicle has is a slow engine. Land Rover opted to go with a four-cylinder engine that could not provide enough power to a still rather large frame. You’re still paying for the Land Rover brand, and unfortunately, buyers feel they overspent on what they got.
12. Mitsubishi Outlander
There were high hopes for the Outlander when it underwent a complete remodel, but according to car experts, it is still the same old boring Outlander. Consumers feel the price tag that comes along with the car is too high for the underperforming engine and the basic, almost boring interior. Sales are not there, as buyers are looking for value in other car brands like Toyota and Honda.
13. Toyota Mirai
Toyota makes a great product, but even the best of the best swing and miss sometimes. Toyota unveiled the Mirai as a concept car that turned into a hybrid aimed to reduce its carbon footprint.
Unfortunately, the car uses hydrogen fuel cells, which are not readily available in most places. If you live in the United States, this might not be the best purchase for you as those cells are quite scarce. This model will evolve and will not be going away anytime soon.
14. BMW X6
The BMW X6 is not all bad. It has a good warranty, good gas mileage, and all the bells and whistles you want in a BMW, so what’s the problem? It’s ugly. That’s right, car fans have related this model to the notorious Pontiac Aztek, a car referred to as one of the ugliest cars ever made. It seems harsh, but hopefully, BMW will change its designs in the upcoming years.
15. Mercedes AMG G65
This car costs over $200k, and it is definitely more of a status symbol than a practical SUV. For that price, you could get a reliable Toyota, put your kid through college, and put a down payment on a house. Unless you have a lot of money to throw away, steer clear of this model.
16. Tesla Model X
Tesla is definitely innovative and is changing the landscape of transportation, but consumers might want to steer clear until they get some of their bugs figured out. Buyers are still unsure when it comes to all-electric vehicles. Most want to be able to make minor repairs themselves. At $70k, that is a lot to ask for a still somewhat new brand.
17. Volvo XC90 Hybrid
Volvo has been one of the most proficient suppliers of safe automobiles for years, and it was only recently that the brand started to dabble in the luxury brand. Confusingly, this model had a price tag of $100k even though it was only a minimal upgrade from the base model. Many believe buyers bought these for exclusivity, as only a few were made. But still, the brand doesn’t scream luxury, and the price doesn’t scream family. Somehow, they tried to do both.
18. Infiniti QX80
I’ve never owned an Infiniti, nor have I ever driven one, but they have always felt like they were trying too hard to be a luxury brand. Others agree with me, saying this model looks cartoonish and silly. With a hefty price tag of over $60k, buyers have complained about the small interior and dull appearance. It’s not a bad ride, but for that price tag, it just feels blah.
